xp media center edition

I tied to uninstall McAfee security center and reinstall it. It said it
could not complete the uninstall process and active shield files are missing
or it may not have been installed properly. I cannot reinstall it and when I
am on a web page and click on a link nothing happens. It finally says
program not responding. How do I fix my problem?
