Long delay after boot

My computer boots up normally. But once the desktop is up, i cannot open
any executable program for 5-7 minutes (yes, minutes!). After the 5 or so
minutes, every program i tried to open comes up at the same time and the
computer works normally from then on.

I've checked with every spyware and virus checker i can and there's nothing
found. Specifically i used Norton anti-virus, HijackThis, AdAwareSE,
NoAdware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Doctor, then used EasyCleaner,
JV16 Power Tools, and TweakNow Reg Cleaner. I pretty sure my computer is
clean.

Something is occupying the computer while the programs queue up. Is there a
utility that can show what the computer is doing during this period? I
tried using BootVis.exe, but that ended when the boot process is over. I
can't use the Windows Task Manager because it too won't open for the 5
minute period.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm using an AMD Athlon 1800 with Windows XP (home) sp2.

I had that problem once. I had to disable some autostart programs, don't
remember which ones. I thought it was the virus program )AVG( but not so
sure. Problem went away.
