LAPTOP???????

i got a laptop from a computor fair and it was originaly on 98 i installed xp and since then i have been having to do it every week cause everything on my harddrive gets deleted im not sure if it is my pc not meant for xp. Is there some way i could stop this happening?????

Firstly when upgrading an o/s, particularly an old o/s you check the winxp
home page and run the compatibility checker - I believe its also contained
in the winxp installation disk.
Its highly likely that yr hardware doesnt support winxp
