iPod crashes windows

hello i have a second generation 20 gig iPod and whenever i plug in the
firewire, i crashes XP, i have tried to boot the system with the iPod
in and the system either hangs, attempts to chkdsk and find errors, or
a boot to xp and no reading of the iPod in iTunes, is there any secret
to restoring this to get it to update again. thanks

Try using a USB connection rather than a firewire connection.
