PC won't reboot with ipod connected

I have an HP 6710b running XP Pro. When I connect an ipod itunes recognizes
it and it works fine. When I try to reboot with the ipod connected the
system freezes (black screen). I think the boot sequence is seeing the ipod
(usb) and stopping. How do I change the boot sequence or is there another
solution to the problem. I have just updated the bios.

Yeah, disconnect your iPod before rebooting.

You can test your theory easily enough.

Have you uninstall all iPod software (drivers and programs) from the
host and see if the host then boots okay with the iPod plugged in during
the boot (I'm guessing that it'll just look like a removable storage
device on a USB controller; I don't have an iPod and never will bother
with it).

My first Sandisk flash drive caused a problem on a cold boot. Seemed ok
on a restart. Flash drives I've purchased since then are ok. Sometimes
for a minor problem like this it's easier to just live with it, assuming
you have front accessible usb ports. If you have to fiddle around in the
rear of the machine, it's somewhat more than a minor problem. If the
machine is attempting to boot from the device, the bios should give up
on not finding a bootable partition and move to the next device.

This is a known Windows XP issue.

The workaround, is to disconnect the ipod when rebooting.

It seems that no one answered your original post on how to stop your
PC from trying to boot off your iPOD. This is not a complete XP
problem but a PC BIOS issue. Several, if not all, new PCs offer
booting the PC via a USB drive, be it flash, hard drive or floppy.
You will need to access the HPès BIOS setup screen (press F2 or
F10???) during the BIOS POST screen. Then, look for the boot sequence
and either remove the USB boot options or place your main hard drive
before the USB options.
