Installation Query

Recently had a friend ask me if I could reinstal WidowsXP on her laptop.
However when she brought in the laptop it did not have a CD Rom drive
fitted, she did though have a USB type CR/RW Iomega model. I set the bios
to boot from ROM plugged in the usb connection and powered up the device. I
then started up in safe mode no problems, alas what I could not do was get
the laptop to see the usb CR/RW. I am still stuck with this problem although
my freind says she is not in desperate need of the laptop it is an issue
which is bugging me. I would lke to know if anyone has had a similar
problem and how they worked around it. Thanking all contribtors in advance.

Does the BIOS have the option to boot to USB? Why safe mode? You can do an
installation in normal mode or even an upgrade. Is the drive assigned a
letter? If not you may need to do that if Windows isn't automatically
picking up the CDROM.
