installation office xp

I have office xp professional cd, sent home with me from the college where I
work, to put on school's laptop. I installed, with system wide usage product
key, seemed to install, but when I open WORD, I have to put code in again,
then it will not let me TYPE, just view files. What is the deal? need this to
work now. Thanks
