Incoming Emails Freeze on Second Message

This is the second time in a month that I have 20 or more emails to receive
and the system stops on the second one. I can see #3 thru the end on
Charter.net but continue to receive the first message and the "freeze" on
Windows Mail. Error message says "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60
seconds....". Charter says it is a Microsoft or Compaq problem. Resolved
itself in less than 24 hours last time. Now going on third day. Thanks!

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
option arises.

That symptom indicates a 'stuck' email on the server.
Log in via webmail (using your browser), sort the messages there by date,
delete all the older ones you've already downloaded, plus one more (#3).
Then try Windows Mail again.
