IE 6 sp1 unable to open internet site or site cannot be found

I really need some help here with this problem. Everytime i try to save any type of file from Internet Explorer to my computer i get the below error message. I am using windows xp, Internet Explorer 6 sp1

"IE cannot download file.exe from website.com

IE was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. please try again later.

Even if i just try to save a link by "save target as" it comes up with this error!
Thsi is really restricting my internet use a lot, i cannot download any anti virus software, kazaa or just even watch a small video clip
I am however able to download updates from windows, but this is about it

please help!

wickid just fixed the problem
just looked at another post on here and went to local folders and just deleted the temp files and its jsut suddenly started working again! -weird, all that just for one small little thin
good :)
