IE Cannot Download from Internet site message

I have Windows 2000 Pro SP4 with the latest patches and security updates
including IE SP1. I receive the following error when I click on a link to
open a PDF file. This problem doesn't occur for every PDF file I try to
download:

"Internet Explorer cannot download...Advantage brochure - 2005.pdf from
catinsurance.cat.com. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please
try again later."

I enabled all Active X settings under IE custom security settings. My PC
has the latest version of Adobe Reader, and other people are able to click on
the link to the PDF on the same website and have no problem. I am able to
click on links to PDFs on other websites and they open fine. If I
right-click on the link and select "Save Target As" I am able to save the
file with no problem. I only receive the error above when clicking on the
link. I have the option to Open or Save the File when I click on the link.
I receive the error when I select either option. Please advise.

Hi Amanda,

The only thing I can think of is a version problem with the pdf file you are
trying to open and the version of your PDF reader. Check that you have the
latest version of your PDF reader, most have a "Check for Updates" button.

Since you are able to "Save Link As" for this file and other pdf files are
opened normally I would live with it and assume this is a one off situation.

Ah also the file name they are using "Advantage brochure - 2005.pdf"
contains blanks and the "-" character. This could cause navigation errors
but not prevent you from downloading the file.

Regards.
