Consumers are ulitmately in charge and the market always corrects
itself in the end,

Quite correct. Americans will start pricing themselves back into work.
They will accept pay cut and this would help their well being and
obesity will be a thing of the past as they start economising and start
eating less but healthily.

We would see more Indians and Chinese who are obese because they are
enjoying better life style at present resulting in not eating healthily.

Has anyone thought of competing against cheap Indians by locating a
completely new venture somewhere in South-East England, UK? If so,
please contact me as we can provide technical support of highest
standards and competitively. We are already doing it for free (this NG
for example) so why can't we do something about it and charge a modest
sum to commercial organisation world wide? I am sure they need
something locally who they can contact without waiting for hours in the
queue!

British Central Government and Local Councils are willing to provide
grants to new ventures if new jobs are created in the deprived part of
England.

After voting Pres. G. W. Bush Jr. a second term, the whole world thinks
Americans are stupid. It's the premise MS is most probably acting on. Anyway
J.D.B it is the U.S pushing for the (double speak) level playing field, free
market, free world, democracy everywhere. If you disagree, you'll get
annihilated, guess MS support goes offshore then. Just don't feel ambivalent
if you get a chance to pirate MS software, then call India for activation
and support, you'll feel better for it.

I squat. I beg sitting at London Underground stations (Americans call
it subway). Each person who passes by leaves 20p at a time. So if you
get 1 million people giving you 20p at a time, why would you want to
work or for that matter steal? Stealing is too much hard work and
risky. You can shot dead!

Any more stupid questions or comments?

Quite correct. Americans will start pricing themselves back into work.
They will accept pay cut and this would help their well being and
obesity will be a thing of the past as they start economising and start

Actually, you've got it wrong.

Employees across the world will start demanding higher wages as they
start realizing their value and how much profit the companies they work
for are making. The demand for higher wages by foreign workers will
eventually cause the off shore benefit to diminish and due to the
complexities, the work will move back to the local country.

All things being even, wages being near the same, there is no benefit in
moving anything off-shore. There are still some places that offer things
like no pollution standards, no taxes, and slaves, but that too will
change as the wage earners increase their socioeconomic status.

This whole thread is sad testomony of how the US is losing its competitive
advantage in the world market. Well-educated and productive labor is no
longer a scarce resource in the global market, so naturally jobs will seek
the lowest cost. If, as a nation, we can't continue to differentiate
ourselves with greater innovation and productivity, we face a difficult task
ahead. This is NOT a Bush/Blair thing! Our diminishing competitive
advantage has been going on for decades. How many of you college grads can
remember the large number of Asian, Middle Eastern, and Indian classmates you
had - getting free rides from their respective governments while you worked a
job or two to pay tuition? Our current sad state of affairs in this country
could have been forseen decades ago. The Indians are simply benefitting from
their government's investment in education and training. Yet my kids can't
get a good public education, and our colleges are over-crowded with foreign
nationals.

I agree Leythos...in India IT profs are demanding higher salaries now and it
will definatley bring back the work to the local country. But it will take
time. May be a decade or so. But u know Leythos inlast 10 yrs the world has
changed a lot and whtever we think abt the future prooves wrong or
inapplicable...Lets see what will happen next...

One more point i would like to lighten here is India is not attracting IT
business because of lower salaries but they (we) have good brains here. The
Hotmail founder (Sabeer Bhatia), Father of Pentium (Vinod Dhar) and more than
18% of Microsoft (as i know) IT HR are Indians. Even Adobe has a big set up
in Northern India. This is responsible for Research on Adobe products.
There are lot more things i can tell u abt the developoing India,

anyways its good to discuss...

Hi Blubby
I agree with you.
Since a long time, America is busy with Intl politics and Americans are busy
living luxury life. Perhaps they dont know the excellent work done by theier
ancestors from the independence to the World Power.
Today every youth in this world dream of working in USA or atleast visit the
US once in his her life.
I admire America they way it helped the world in technology and science and
many more things.

But that was history....Children are the future of any nation. The American
children are busy with Porn websites, enjoying sex, losing virginity at the
age 10, 11. They r not disciplined, they are not serious with studies,
Harward and Bostons are publishing nude magazines....so this way the youth is
losing focus.
Sex and nudity is something which can give u pleasure for a moment but will
destroy your nations youth and his/her capabilities.

And the businesspeople will always take advantage of this.

So dear amercand you are the super power..awaken now or you will lose with
other players...a decade back it was only Russia...now a days there are
several players in the race.

All the Best

Very ironic to observe comments from our British bretheren over the last few
years. (I'm a first generation yank of British parents.) Not too long ago,
UK was the greatest economic and military power on the planet, was the most
technologically advanced, and controlled the largest empire ever assembled.
That's why India speaks English. But talk about economic decay!! Who owns
Rolls-Royce/Bentley, Jaguar, Aston-Martin, MG/Rover? Need I say more? Yet
they persist in their vocal laissez-faire, socialistic policies, and
criticize us for not following in their footsteps. Brilliant!

U

Uncle Joe

It's really quite easy to be condescending and liberal in one's views
about free trade and the dangers it poses to American Civilization
when it's your job isn't in danger; and when your income isn't in
danger; and your housing and utilities aren't at risk; and when you
aren't at risk of losing all your insurance, health benefit, retirement,
and 401K plans; and when you aren't threatened by the necessity
of calling your kids in college and telling them to pack up and come
home--that Mom and Dad can't afford to keep them in school another
day.

In my case, the CEO pocketed $1.3 million for reducing overhead--
not counting what he probably got under the table from the off-shore
company for diverting all IT support activities its way. Did the company
reduce its prices? No. Did it increase its dividends? No, of course not.
Did anyone benefit: Sure, the executives gained great bonuses, and the
off-shore company gained a huge contract. And the employees of the
off-shore company probably enjoy an hourly rate of $2.50 plus a
live chicken at the end of the shift.

The hundreds of Americans who lost their jobs were not lazy, mindless,
soft creatures. They were all college-educated, hard-working, diligent,
loyal, civic-minded, judicious, innovative people who performed above and
beyond the call of duty. They were more than the equal of anyone working
in an off-shore facility. Their flaw was that they all earned $35 or more
(often much more) per hour, plus they enjoyed premium benefits. They
all enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle...nice homes, expensive cars, vacation
homes, easily supporting kids in college. Suddenly, all of that was taken
from them.

They were unable to compete with people in off-shore facilities who earn
less than $10.00 an hour, get no fringe benefits, and who are provided
medical care by the off-shore company's voodoo doctor. I don't blame
the employees in the off-shore companies--after all, they're just looking
after Number One. It's not their problem that millions of Americans are
losing their livelihood and standards of living so that the off-shore
employees can progress. Why should they care, right?

I blame the executives of all the firms who rely on off-shore companies to
reduce costs. They put the savings right in their pockets--never passing
savings on to stockholders or consumers. And I blame the management of
off-shore companies for depressing wages and benefits so as to dramatically
undercut American wages.

It's obvious that your job as garbage truck driver
isn't threatened by India. Otherwise, you'd feel
threatened, too. All the beaming faces marching in
lockstep into Wal-Mart and Target don't realize
that when their jobs are axed next, they won't be
able to even afford Wal-Mart's low prices.

I'll always be enraged by simplistic minds who
blissfully think global free trade is a swell idea...
and willing to sacrifice America on the altar of
profit. Oh, well, there's no hope for some who
refuse to see the pitfalls of free trade...especially
when American trade goods are blocked from
import by the very same countries (India, China,
and Japan, in particular) who make 90% of our
consumables.

I'm old and now retired (far below my previous
standard of living) so I won't live long enough
to see my children and grandchildren suffer
because of dramatically diminished wages.
That's a blessing, although one I feel guilty about.

I don't drive a truck. Where did you get that from?

You don't know me or anything about my past. I can tell you, though,

Well, the mom and pop stores that WalMart, Safeway, etc. replaced would
