No More H1Bs. American jobs for American citizens.

D

DANIEL HENEGHAN

Election day is coming up. It is clear that the interestes of tech workers
do not lay with either of the parties, therefore the best strategry for your
interests is to punish the incumbent, George Bush.

During the past 4 years 400,000 tech jobs have been lost. Despite this the
govenment not only clings on to the discredited H1B program but is actually
advocating for an increase in the number of foreigners to be brought over
and take American jobs. It is absurd to argue that these are jobs that
Americans cannot/willnot do. Americans are the best software developers in
the world, are now and always have been. Name a single significant product
or develope that ever came from India or China.

Nonetheless, industry and ethnic advocates have hoodwinked American
politicians and the gullible sheep that we refer to as mainstream media.
Industry id not hoodwinked, they want their labor to be cheap, fearful and
pliable. H1B's do nothing to advance the interestes of the vast majority of
Americans, they only advance the interests of a miniscule minority of
ethinic advocates (Indian, Chinese, Latin) and greedy entrepreuners who only
care of their own fortune, not yours.

Bush did not create this problem, but he has presided over it for 4 years,
has done nothing and is inclined to make it worse. Punish Bush at the polls
for his contempt of the American worker and his family. These worlds come
from a life-long Republican.

Hi Daniel,
I am not sure that this is the forum for political discussions but seeing
you opened the box, I thought I would add my two bobs worth.

We are also in the middle of an election and with a choice of two inadequate
parties. I am hoping that John Howard, the current leader (probably many
Americans are unaware of who John Howard is). John Howard followed George
Bush in to an illegal invasion of Iraq. The only good thing to come out of
that invasion was the removal of the evil Sadam Hussein. Sadly that aim
could have been achieved using political measures including embargos and
boycotts.

It is now time to remove another evil leader, George Bush. The world is a
much more dangerous place since Bush has been in office and his influence
over the UK and Australia is bewildering.

Long term, the children of Americans will be much safer if US foreign policy
is less biased towards supporting Israel and focuses on creating a level
playing field for world trade. In the 1400s China adopted a closed door
policy that saw them overtaken as the leading civilisation.

The way to achieve prominence is through competition. India is also making
fast inroads in delivering leading edge software solutions into Australia
but closing the doors won't stop them. The way ahead is to embrace the
competition and look for innovative ways to compete and benefits you can
provide.

If you look at the Dot Net list of developers, you will find that the team
is very multi-national.

I support your condemnation of Bush but disagree with your naive
protectionist view.
The more you lock up your country, the more you have conceded to Bin Laden.

The loss of jobs is caused by ecconomic forces not by a few local jobs taken
by foreign workers. The more trade you have the more money is moved around
and the more jobs you have. Proping up inefficient industries like the you
do with subsidies to your farmers stalls your ecconomic growth and kills
jobs. If there are less farm jobs because produce can be imported cheaper
than it can be produced then retrain the farmers and educate the children so
that they can take on other careers.

PS I could never understand why Bush dropped the chase for bin Laden to
invade Iraq. The terrorists that attacked on 11 September (note
international date format) were from Saudi Arabia.

PPS When Australians were bombed in Bali, Australians did not Invade
Indonesia but helped the Indonesian Authorities hunt down and arrest the
perpetrators.

Yes, but the Indonesian armed forces are a tad bigger than the Aussie
Defence Force plus ours put together and the American Cariers were a tad
busy at the time, otherwise who knows what Howard might have tried.

Were you born yesterday night? The embargo & boycott lasted since
August of 1990. In fact, I can't think of a single instance when the
embargo or boycott has brought about a fall of government.

Maybe the leaders of us, uk & australia were like minded? Have you
thought of that?

Daniel,

Can you keep your local politic opinions out of this newsgroup. We are a
community from people from all over the world peaceful helping each other
not thinking about religion, politics or whatever.

At least me want to keep it this way, so please people don't answer these
politics questions in this newsgroup, they only led to misunderstanding.

And how about the end of aparthide in South Africa.
Besides most of the other Arab States were keen to end the Hussein rule but
only if it was done diplomatically.

Stephany,
You are right, Howard is a loose cannon when it comes to putting his name in
front of world media. He is also sexist and racist.

If we did invade Indonesia I am sure that the US would back us, after all
there are oil fields in East Timor.

Actually if Alexander Downer isn't kept in a box we might end up defending
our selves against an Indonesian attack in retaliation for gross diplomatic
abuse.

Because it worked so well for Castro. =)

Provable not true. There is a certain operating system that is pretty
popular in the server arena. It's original author is NOT American. And
also, one of the biggest developers and distributors is German.

Also, in my personal experience, the most talented developers I have ever
met are Indians. No idea why, but thats a fact.

I symphize with the plight of those who lost their jobs because of not only
jobs moving overseas to lower paid personnel as well as the downturn in the
industry, it is after all a free market place. If the government steps in to
correct things like this, it will result in a short term solution but make
things worse in the end.

I am in the oilfield which has lost well over 500,000 jobs in the last few
years due to the same factors but I still believe in the system of free
markets. After all, you don't see many people complaining about the price of
DVD players at less that $50 because they are made in China!

Oh, lord, how can one ever recover from such a vile accusation. Imagine
that, being accused of being a sexist and racist.. He ought to hide his head
in the sand.

tsk. tsk, tsk.

There is a distinction Dennis. H1B's were/are brought over with the
spurrious excuse that there was/is a shortage of available programming
talent. Wrong. Most often what happens, the work of a company is outsourced
domestically to a Tata or Infosys who then brings OVER TO THE U.S.
programmers and the American programmers are fired. That never happened in
the Oil industry. OK. I am not talking about oursourcing. I can compete with
anybody, anyday. But the H1B program is a program of indentured servitude:
the H1B holder puts up with it because the wage is still much higher than in
his home country, even after expenses, and the employers dangles in front of
his eyes the universally coveted GREEN-CARD. Hey, why should any U.S.
corporation enact its own immigration policy to this country? Why can't I
decide who does, and who does not immigrate? But that is another story.
