Microsoft thinks we are stupid

C

Confused User

Why does microsoft make their OS as though they think everyone in the world
is stupid, except for the devs who make it? They make those annoying
bubbles, they make "default" folders that you cannot get rid of, even if you
will never use them, such as "My Music" and so many other little annoying
"you are too stupid to think for yourself" kinds of things. I like point and
click and ease of use, but I hate the "We know best" attitude. They need to
change it.

Years of experience successfully dealing with the mass consumer
market.

I also intensely dislike the "dumbing-down" of computer operating
systems targeted for the mass consumer market (a trend started by
Apple, I believe), but it's pretty much inevitable if the software and
computer companies want to sell their products to anyone but
technophiles, scientists, businesses, and the technically educated.
Whenever a business targets the mass consumer market it has no choice
but to appeal to the "lowest common denominator," if it wants to be
successful. Witness network television programming, for example.
And, unfortunately, all too many people have, over the years, gone to
extraordinarily great lengths to prove that Microsoft's perception of
them is correct.

If people were willing to put more effort into learning to safely
maintain and use their PCs then they're putting into trying to guess
who "the Donald" will fire this week, Microsoft - and all of the other
software manufacturers, including providers of many of the newer Linux
distros --would not have to provide so much hand-holding.

Yeah, you got that right. Its really too bad that MS doesn't take into
account the differences and make a version for idiots and one for people who
know what they are doing. Thanks for an intelligent reply to my rant.

The truth is some people are just too stupid to own a computer. I know a guy
who bought a computer several years ago and he still doesn't know what the term
"download" means, yet alone copy, paste, or drivers.

MS is not the only one. :)
And statistics varify it as a truth more and more every quarter.

Look at it this way.
Many asume they know where milk comes from.
Cows would be the main answer.
Some smartass's would start a debate about mammals, fat content, powered,
the type of containers used, and some girl would harp on about soy.

But many of these people have no idea about cow poop, hay, grain, cow
desease, barns, maiking machines, the government requirements, fixed
pricing, distribution, expiration dates, dease control, pasterizartion and
homogeniztion, label laws, grass, land, floods, droughts, and last but not
least, twice a day 7 X 24.

And the real hidden but natual fact, a cow must have a baby first. Well,
even I'm not sure about that one? :)
I haven't milked a cow since 1953. :)

And what's is reallly interesting it that cows have been in the news almost
as often as computers and pop stars.
They are always into the hi-tech stuff. Strange world we have created on top
of the dirt.

Only two weeks ago somebody was told to disconnect everything before re-installing WinXP. She thought, she was supposed to open the box, remove all the cables, close the box and start re-installing WinXP!!! So there you have it. Microsoft is really stupid to make make computer jargon difficult to understand or prone to misunderstanding! Incidentally it was Will Deny who saved her from destroying her PC completely!!

A customer when told to reboot the system who literally kicked it with his boots because the mini tower box was on the floor and he thought it is there to make booting easier!!

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

Here's what I'd like to see. Microsoft comes out with a stripped
down, yet uncrippled, Windows XP version that gets rid of all the
annoying little extras that we have to turn off or delete
ourselves when you install the OS on our computers. No "My
Documents" or "My Pictures" folders. No idiot balloons. No
gadzillion choices of background or desktop images -- let us
download and install these options ourselves if we want them. No
guided video tour of the OS taking up harddrive space. Especially,
no Media Player, Internet Explorer, Outlook or Outlook Express.
Sell this stripped down OS for around $50. And most important of
all *no product activation*.

Hell, even *I'd* buy it. Microsoft would double its earnings in a
couple of years.

Hasn't anyone ever told them you're supposed to open the CD tray,
then upturn the case over the trash and shake it to get rid of all
the unwanted data that's taking up so much space?

C

Confused User

You hit the nail on the head. There is so much added for idiots and all they
would have to do is leave all the junk out and sell a plain, good OS. I
don't have a problem with the activation, but the idiot stuff I can do
without.

Is it wrong to want better and share that desire with others? Just from the

*chuckles*..that was a great misspelling. It took some pondering on
nesciences.

C

Confused User

Just because I don't have to time to spend learning all the little tweaks of
the OS, does not make me a nuisance. I spend my time learning other
important things. Notice that I say "other", because I think computers are
important, they are just not the realm that I dedicate my endeavors to.
People like you, think that if someone doesn't know the ins and outs of the
windows registry, they are a nuisance but that just shows how closed minded
you are. Perhaps you should scrape the rust off of that closed steel trap
you call a mind and realize that there is something besides computers in the
world. If you asked me about the QED or SED model of the vacuum or what ZPE
is, I would actually take the time to explain it and not treat you like an
idiot. Perhaps that is beyond you, but hey, there is always the chance.
