Is 'Windows Support Services' a legitimate Microsoft Co?

Hi

I live in the UK.

Today I received a number a cold calls from the above company, telling
me I had a number of problems with my PC which they'd gleaned 'from
information sent from my router' & wanted to 'turn my computer on so
they could fix it for me."

I sounded like they were come form an Indian call centre.

I hung up each time, but they 'phoned back.


The last call, when asked if he was working for Microsoft he said yes.

But alarm bells were still ringing (how did they get my telephone
number?) so I didn't do anything & just hung up.

But just to check & maybe a heads up to others, I thought I check here
to see if might just be a legitimate MS service (although I doubt it).

It isn't Microsoft. You know as well as everyone else, MS couldn't care
less if you had a problem with your PC.

Microsoft "fixing" your PC "conflicts" for "free??" How did you
purchase your Windows? Was it "bundled" on a new PC or did your
purchase a "retail" box that Microsoft was shipping?

Also, a router is supposed to "protect" the access of your PCs on the
Internet.

This is "bogus!!!!!!" Now you should:

-- Scan your PCs for "viruses" / "spywares" / "malwares" / "hackwares"
-- Protect your email address when posting to newsgroups / web forums
-- Change your router's password

Go to WH Smith or any newsagent and look for this weeks Computeractive.
The main feature is all about phone scams which are exactly what you
recieved.

Ive had the the same thing , a few times over the last months ,
after a bit of goon fun , wrong names , dont undestand question ,
just end with 'but I dont have a computer at home' is then
followed by ....bzzz

really depends on how much time you have to kill when the call
comes in .. tell them nothing real !
