Hello all,
I'm looking into hosting my own sites. I have a PC with a P4 1.5GHz
1GB RAM and 20GB HDD I was thinking of using for that purpose. I rea
that W2000 is fairely easy to setup but I am still unclear about on
thing:
How fast does my connection need to be? I understand that downloa
speeds are always much faster that upload. Does it mean that if I hos
my server, someone browsing on it will be limited by my upload speed o
is it different? If I have a standard cable 1.5MB/192Kb, would this b
enough to have a smooth web display?
Thanks,
Nic

I would check your cable provider's acceptable use policy. Most home cable
or DSL providers frown on running servers of any kind, especially web, mail
or FTP servers. It might even specifically say that it is prohibited.

Otherwise, I've run servers on bundled ISDN lines at 256-K with excellent
results. It all depends on the number of pages, content (ie., graphics),
etc. If all you're running is text-based pages, for example, dialup would
probably work.
