Help! - Computer hibernates immediately after booting to windows xp

After stupidly messing with XP's power mangement in an attempt to get
my APC Back UPS to work properly, I somehow configured the computer to
immediately go into hibernation upon booting to windows. I tried
hitting F8 during reboot in order to get to safe mode and hopefully
reconfigure power management but the only thing it lets me do is
either resume from hibernation or reboot windows, both of which are
followed by another immediate hibernation sequence. Is there any way
to defeat the automatic hibernation and stay in windows?

A dumb answer but why dont you reset or change the window settings after you
"resume from hiberation" in the display panel in the Control panel?
