windows confusing standby w hibernate

Just did a clean install, bought a tv tuner card and using as a home
theatre pc as well. So now I leave it on all the time.

I mostly use the computer for a few hours during the day and record tv
shows throughout...

Anyway, thats enough backround. I'm running win xp home (oem) and I
tell the computer to go into standby mode after 30mins and hibernate
after 2hrs. But I find that the computer will go into hibernate mode
after 30mins (or whatever standby is set to. Any thoughts before I have
to reinstall again and have to phone ms for another activation code?
(since it will be the third or forth (re)install.

thanks, Id appreciate any input and hopefully wont have to reinstall
again and reconfigure all my apps as well as windows.

I can manually put it into standby or hibernate and it's fine. Also if
the computer idles for 15mins or so it will go into hibernate as well
(even though I set it to much much longer timer than that)

Also seem to be having issues where in windows explorer it can't
remember my view settings. I have it on list and keeps going to icons
view all the time. I think I might have to reinstall and hope it fixes
the problem... Although this isn't the first time this has happenend.
