Computer Won't Hibernate

Hi
I have a sony vaio running windows xp home. Not exactly sure when this
issue started, but just recently I noticed my computer will not hibernate. I
click on the hibernate button then the system goes to the "preparing to
hibernate screen" briefly then goes back to the normal windows screen.
Also, the computer won't hibernate on its own if the power management
properties are set for it to go into hibernation after so long.
The computer will go into standby mode fine. I have run updated versions of
spybot and adaware and both say my system is clean.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
