Greatly reduced speed with explorer 6

I recently downloaded the version 6 and since then my
speed in using certain web sites has decreased greatly. I
have windows 98 and was using version 5 before without
this problem. I think this problem may be related to using
the updated version with the windows 98. I would like to
go back to the earier version of explorer but I don't know
how to get this done. any suggestions?
