Epson perfection 1670 flatbed scanner - no document on the bed

I have used the Epson installation CD, and ensured that all of the
software installed without any problems. The scanner is making all the
right "noises", but I can't get an image to scan. I have placed an A5
photo on the flatbed, and I have tried in SMART PANEL and EPSON SCAN,
and I can't get the photo to appear at all.
All I have done that is different is move house.
I also have an Epson printer and wondered if I have mixed the two usb
cables up, but I can get a result from the printer now.
Please could someone advise me how to make my photo appear.

PS. A black and white sheet of text doesn't appear either.

Unplug the scanner for about 1 hour then plug it back in. I had this
same problem that you did and tried that as a last resort. it worked.
