Epson Perfection 1670: scanner works, but no image sent to PC

ThumperStrauss

I have reinstalled XP (with SP2) but I am still having a problem with
my Epson Perfection 1670 scanner.

The scanner responds to commands using the scanner wizard or Twain
thingy within Photoshop. But it doesn't show (in preview or regular
scan mode) what is on my scan bed.

Again, the scanner sensor thingy moves back and forth in exactly the
correct way. But the image never makes it to my PC.

I'm using the latest drivers from the Epson site. Anyway ideas why the
image isn't being transfered?

Any error messages? A similar thing happened to my Expesion 1600, it
was the mother board on the scanner (RIP). I was getting a periodic USB
error too. Could also be the led tubes or sensors are out.

No error messages. It goes through the motions perfectly. But the image
on the screen is always white.

Hi thumper...

Been a long time; can't remember the features of the 1600, so please
forgive me if I describe a feature that the 1600 doesn't have...

With respect, it's not possible that you're trying to scan
a transparency in document mode, or vice-versa, is it?

Not trying to scan a transparency with the cover in place?

Haven't somehow accidentally mis-adjusted software controls so
that the whole thing is "whited-out"?

Haven't import selected wiatwain rather than the epson twain?
(I can't wia to work, though it refuses to try rather than try
improperly, but...)

Take care.

Hi Ken. Thanks for the suggestions. I reinstalled XP and reinstalled
the Epson scanner installation CD. I restarts the computer. I plugged
in the scanner. The system tray bubble said the scanner was ready. I
used the Epson control panel to scan. Again, same problem where nothing
appears as scanned on the scanner bed.

All the settings are set up for standard photos (not slides, not
reverse, etc.)

I plugged the USB cable into another USB port. Same deal.

Using Photoshop, I also tried importing with:
Epson Perfection 1670
WIA-Epson Perfection 1670

But neither displays what's on the scanner bed. The resulting image
scan produced a white image.

The weird part is that the scanner works and can be controlled by the
software. Could there be a mechanical problem with the eye of the
scanner? The weird part is that this problem only happend when I
reinstalled by XP last month. (I've since re-re-installed XP.)

Hi again...

Sorry to hear that; almost at a loss here...

I wonder if you're using the twain import in professional mode
(if the 1670 supported that). Perhaps try pre-scan with all the
controls in their default mode. Or, prescan the whole bed,
then click the auto level button, see what happens.

Another possibility. Using a usb hub? If so, try plugging it
in without the hub.

One more. Cable gone bad? Or one of the pins on the connector
somehow been bent out of place?

Take care.
