they let it sit for about 5 mins, the screen goes blue with a message about
logging in , cept the only option is shut down. anyone know why this is? or
any ideas on what settings need tobe changed to stop this from happening?

eMachines are terrible computers (IMHO). I'd bring it back and get something
else.

Sounds like the eMachine is set to go into hibernation/standby after 5
minutes...go to Control Panel>Power Options and remove the settings for
Hibernation. You might want to check screen saver in Display.. Control
Panel>Display>screen saver tab..you can also access the hibernation settings
that way, just click on Monitor Power>settings.

What a completely worthless answer.

If you cannot contribute something worthwhile, please do not contribute at
all.

eMachines are no worse than any other brand of computers; they are owned by
Gateway. eMachines computers are not bad for the money you spend on them.

glad I could help...it's funny, but it's usually the simplest of things, but
we sometimes think on it too hard and look for the more complicated possible
causes and solutions.
