Emachines restore CDs

Chris

Emachines restore CDs don't seem to work.
Two friends have tried to use them, with no success at all.

Is there a secret of success?

Else is it legitimate to use a normal XP Home CD and use the serial
number on the back of the Emachines case?

What's the difference between a retail XP CD and an OEM one?
And which is needed?

What about drivers?

eMachine restore disks will only work on the original hardware
configuration. Have your friends remove and replace any hardware they
changed and then try the restore. They can then reinstall the upgraded
hardware.

No, a retail XP CD cannot be used with the eMachines Product Key. The
Product Key on the eMachine if an OEM key and you will need a OEM CD to use
the eMachine key.
