This on has got me stumped. Customer brings in PC. Says he tried to
restore from his original disks and now PC just hangs. It is an
eMachine T4170 running XP Home. All hardware is factory. I take the
restore CD and run the restore myself, thinking the customer just did
something wrong. I get the same results.
When XP tries to boot in Normal or Safe I get a blue screen and a STOP
0x0000007B message.
I thought it was just another eMachine with bad motherboard so I found
a new motherboard with same part number and swapped it out. I went
ahead and swapped the power supply as well, since I have seen so many
go bad in other eMachines. Same error.
Through the course of several hours I have replaced the CPU, memory,
removed all PCI cards, unhooked the front USB ports and audio ports
from the MB, replaced all cables, CD-Rom, floppy drive and hard drive.
The only thing left is the case itself and when I try the restore it
says it works but I get the same STOP error every time.
I checked the disks, and they are original eMachines T4170 disks. I
checked all the hardware and it does match what his PC is supposed to
have. The disks do not load Windows, but simply restore the Ghosted
image.
If eMachines sent out a batch of bad recovery disks I should be able to
find mention on the web. Any ideas on what could possibly be causing
this?
