emachine in loop

Winxp - HDD crash, now have new HDD in place formated etc. Emachine (4 yr
old T2642) uses 3 cd's to do a restore, they all seem to load into machine
(via ghost 7.0) and once done, promps you for a re-boot. Screen comes up
with "start windows normally/Safe Mode" option. I have tried all options,
however after a 30 second count down, I receive same message. I have
attempted the restore operation 5 times same result. Any suggestions
appreciated! (emachine support makes you want to scream.)

Have you changed any other hardware (besides the new HD) in those four
years? If so, maybe a needed driver for a new video or sound card, NIC, or
whatever is needed. Just a thought and a guess here. Good luck.

Good thought. On one of the later restore attempts, I had disconnected just
about everything I could. The mother board has most of the "stuff" on the
board itself. Pretty much "stock" from the factory, it has worked well in a
business environment most of its life.

Same kind of HDD?

If the new drive is SATA - and the old one not - you'll have to take steps
(what the steps might be, I do not know).

Yes...both are/were IDE old style, one HDD in system connected as Master.
Like I said in original post, it is recognized, it formats fine, dumps the 3
cd restore data back on the disk but fails when booting for the first time.
Emachine Tech support (Gateway) suggest that I use GWscans.exe ver 5.1 to
clean my HDD of everything, new re-format and try the restore once again.
In the process now. I cannot determine if emachine is one of those OEM's
that put a hidden partition on the HDD, I do not think they did, but if so
then I am hose'd!
