Safe Mode-Blue Screen of Death

I have Win XP Home. When I try to go to safe mode, I get the blue screen of
death.
I have a Sony PCV RX 570 with 1.8 GH, 512 RAM and 160 GB of hard disk space.
I have not connected any new hardware.

What is the nature of the STOP error?

Try the following...

Safe Mode Cmd Only (excludes the shell)

Log into the hidden admin account that Safe uses, but normally, e.g.
after pressing Ctl+Alt+Del at the login prompt.

Log into the "normal" account in Safe Mode.

If the hidden admin account is bad when Safe or unsafe, and the
"normal" account is OK in Safe or unsafe, then troubleshoot the HKU
(when active, HKCU) for the hidden admin acount. Look to
account-specific integration points and stores.

If both accounts are fine in normal mode and crash in Safe Mode, think
in terms of what is unique to Safe Mode - device driver differences,
differences as mediated by registry settings, etc. as well as possible
fixes that suppressing "normal" items may un-fix.
