Default Printer

Chris

We recently got an Epson C84 in the office. I've shared
it out from a workstation, and everyone can connect and
print to it with no problems. However, it seems that this
printer really likes to be used as it keeps reassigning
itself as the default printer. No matter what other
printer (network or shared) you set as default in the
printer menu (Start>Settings>Printers), after a short time
it reverts to the C84. All the machines are Windows 2000,
including the share.

Any ideas? It's a bit annoying to have to reinstall the
printer every time you want to use it.

I'm having the same problem with a C64 on a 2 workstation peer to peer
network. Both using Win2K

Go to the PC that has the printer connecte to and open printer and faxes
right click on your epson printer icon, left click on printing preferences.
Go to maintenance tab. Click on SPEED & PROGRESS button.
Place a check mark beside DISABLE EPSON STATUS MONITOR 3, Click Ok, Ok.

The software provided with my Epson Stylus 760 when installed on Windows 98
includes status monitor software that I do not care for, but it can be
turned off similarly to the way you described.

I found though that on a clean install of Windows XP (version 2002), it
plugged and played the printer and installed only a driver. No status
monitor. Hooray!
