Cookies with XP and McAfee

I have been unable to get any help at all on McAfee so I am asking here,
just in case someone might be able to help.

I have the McAfee Security Center that is provided free by my ISP (the ISP
is no help either). The security center is fine for my needs -- it doesn't
slow me down in any way and keeps me cleaned up -- too well, it seems.....
It deletes cookies without giving me a chance to choose any. My problem is
that every time I run a virus scan, it removes my TV listings and I would
dearly love not to have to recreate them each week.

I've tried saving the cookie to my removable hard drive that isn't scanned,
but that doesn't work. There's obviously something I don't get about this
and I'd appreciate any ideas any one has.

The program can't meet your needs if it's operations remove content you
want to keep. McAfee has "ALWAYS" done things it's not asked to do.

Are you sure you've checked McAfee's options/settings to not process
Cookies ? That would seem to be a configurable setting. You might be
able to preserve Cookies by using the browser security settings to add
the site in question to your "Trusted" Zone.

Just because it's provided free by your ISP is no reason to endure these
kinds of issue(s). One guaranteed solution for any application problem is
Uninstalling it. You can get alternative solutions ( and free of cost )
that
you can just install & use and not have to "Twiddle" with to get working.

I've stopped tracking/investigating new releases from both McAfee and
Symantec and just placed them both in the "Don't Bother" category.

I've encountered this problem but with McAfee's competor product
Norton. If you have the McAfee software installed on your PC, you
should be able to access the "Advanced" configuration settings and
"tweak" the scan settings to not eliminate you cookies.

As for a complete replacment for the package, you will need a anti-
virus, firewall and anti-spyware softwares. Please note at all "free"
software solutions do not come with any direct tech support. You must
search for your own solutions on your own.

You are better off without McAfee or Norton or any of the other big security
suites. There are good alternatives, some free, some low cost.

Anti-Virus:
Avast (free) ( I use this)
AVG (free)
NOD32 (costs but excellent)

Firewall:
Sunbelt Software Kerio Personal Firewall (free and low cost) ( I use the
paid version)
Comodo Personal Firewall (free) (I use this one one installation. Seems
fine)
Zone Alarm (free and paid)

Non Viral anti-malware:
Ad-Aware SE Personal (free)
SpyBot S&D (free)
Windows Defender (free)
BHO Demon (free)
Spyware Blaster (free)

Uninstall McAfee Security Center and use AVG free antivirus instead.
