Connecting 2 printers

I have Windows XP and have and an HP LaserJet2200d
connected with a parallel port. I tried to connect an
epson stylus photo 820 via USB and it worked for a day.
Then all the printers disappeared. Is there a conflict?
Would it be better if I connected them with an a/b box?

Perhaps your print spooler has stopped.

From the command prompt, type

net start spooler

and hit enter

Do they reappear?
