can't view contents of CD

All I get is an hourglass for a moment when I double-click or right-click:
Open on the CD burner.
When I right-click and choose Explore I get Windows Explorer opened at the
Desktop. It won't let me choose the burner to view contents.

I've searched this newsgroup and I found a fix for Search Assistant that
comes up instead of drive contents but I didn't get the Search Assistant, I
get nothing.

The contents display fine in the DVD drive below it. The burner contents
display fine when I log on as administrator.

The drive reads CDs just fine and autoplay handles all the files the right
way so it isn't a matter of read failure.

Please direct me to a simple fix.

Are you saying that CD contents in that burner will display in explorer when
logged in to an account with administrator level privileges but not from a
limited user account? Did it ever display properly? Have you tried
creating another limited user account to see if it works?

I have always been able to view CD contents. This may be a time to use
Restore.
I went to Control Panel: Users. My default user (John) is listed as
administrator but can't view CD contents. Safe Mode Administrator can view
CD contents. I activated the Guest account. Logged in as Guest I can view
CD contents. Makes no sense to me. Somewhere there is a setting...

Create another account with admin privileges. Can the CD contents be viewed
from that new account? If so copy the settings from your old admin account
that won't work to the new. See this link. Then does the new account still
work? If so delete the old and use the new.

Restore didn't help.
The new user with administrator privileges can view CD contents.
Progress.
