i am trying to uninstall a program (netbet pro) through Add or Remove Programs. As soon as I hit Uninstall, I get a popup "Windows Installer" with the message "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Netbet Pro disk and click OK." This program was installed from a webpage, not a disk. I have also had the same problem when trying to Install AVG Antivirus, I get the same popup "Windows Installer" with the same message. What could possibly be causing this??

Hi Tazz, Welcome to the forum
HAve you tried running any sort ofantivirus to rule out nasties ?

I suggest running Trend Micro House Call and Malwarebytes and see if they pick up any nasties. What AV are you currently running ?

Howdy EvanDavis...... yes, I tried Malwarebytes, I've used a registry scan, Spybot, Ad-Ware and CCleaner, all to no avail.

Yes, TriplexDread, AVG. I got rid of Norton's when the Sub ran out. Now, "the website for uninstall instructions" and which website would that be? Microsoft? I spent hours trying to find the answer there. That's how I ended up here.

I only use my PC for 3 programs that I can't put on my Mac. AND one of those programs is tied up with Netbet. Now, my problem is Netbet have a new program, BUT I can't install it till I Uninsall the previous version...... which I CAN'T DO. Another reason I am now using a Mac.

Netbet as in the online casino? I would stay far awy from installing any of their software on my Pc's. Anyway I found a link to a place hwere others seem to be having the same or similar problems to you. Althoug you have probably been there. LINK
Have you tried manualy deleting Netbet ? In aother words go into program files, find the Netbet folder. Delete it the run Ccleaner afterwards.
What programs can't you run on Mac ?Let me know and i'll find a way for you to run them on Mac.

Edit: here another thing you can try. Its windows uninstall utility. I can't find MS link, but this one is from softpedia so good in my opinion

Thanks again for the help. No, it's not an Online Casino. It's our (Australia) Horse Racing betting agency TAB. It's their online betting software. I'm no gambler, but I do have a small bet from time to time and if I get a tip it's usually just prior to a race, so I can put in on within seconds of the start through the Netbet Pro program. Certainly nothing sinister.

I tried the Windows Uninstaller Utility, and that worked great, so it's all fixed. Thank you.
The reason you can't find the link through MS is they have dumped it from their site. not available anymore for some reason.

As for the programs I can't use on my Mac, well, it's not really that I can't use them, it's that I have Subscriptions with 2 of them that I would have to re-purchase for the Mac. So, I'll wait till they update their programs and then get the Mac version.

Well glad you have resolved the problem. I did think that with trying to find an MS link. It wouldn't be the first time thy have done this.
