Canon D/Camera not recognised...

Help MVP's,
I have a Canon A200 digital camera which I have used for 2 years without
hiccup. Recently, for no reason at all (obviously I have done something
because it no longer works), the camera is not recognised and I cannot
download my pictures (of brand new really cute Border Collie black & white
fluffy puppy). I have uninstalled/reinstalled Canon software, updated
drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled USB ports, downloaded Autoplay.exe,
including deleting VidXXXXXX keys out of registry, downloaded updated driver
from Canon site and still no show in the Device Manager. Have I missed
anything? Maybe I have the pattern of correction wrong, please help. I have
XPSP2 Home which I love and can't live without.
Cheers,

Lil...

Thanks Hugh,
But that was one of the first things I tried. I had forgotten to put it in
my post.

Do other USB devices work?
If this was my camera, I'd try it on a known good computer. If it doesn't
wortk there, I'd suspect a hardware problem-bad cable, bad camera port, etc.
You should be able to get access to your photos using a card reader.

Yes, thanks Hugh, other devices do work. I was hoping it would be something
easy like updating a driver etc. I have a sneaky suspicion it is the port on
the camera that is not working. Probably cheaper to buy a CF card reader. I
shall test the cable on another camera anyway to narrow down causes just in
case. Thanks for the advice. Two heads (or in this case hundreds) are
better than one.
Cheers,
Lil ;-)

just a thought: are the camera batteries low? if so it might not be
working the port well [mine refuses to communicate when batteries are
low].

also, try removing the batteries completely for several minutes to an
hour, in an attempt to get the logic to reset. sometimes the logic gets
hung, and resetting things gets it working again.

Hey Frodo,

Batteries just recharged, however I will take you up on removing them for an
hour, maybe it needs to reset like you suggest. I might get some new
batteries just in case and try that as well before I head off to the techs.

Did this solve the problem? I have what appears to be a very similar problem
with my Canon SX120 IS camera and Windows XP SP3, so am keen to know if it
worked
