Hi All, with out the need of a external program or skinner how do you change
boot up screens and
menu bars, or do "have" to buy programs to change things like this with win
xp.

Thanks in advance

You don't want to do it manually. Trust me on this one.

Changing Your Boot Screen:

That's free, easy, and has a far greater chance at success than that which
is done manually by someone who's got to ask. (Nothing personal but you can
break stuff with that.)

Hello ©~G¢õff~©,

All files are packed in kernel, which are 4 of them in windows xp.
Bootstrap choose one depending on kind of CPU: ntoskrnl.exe, ntkrnlpa.exe,
ntkrnlmp.exe, krnl386.exe.
You will need some sort of resource editor to change that files. "Resource
Hacker"?
And you will have to turn off windows file protection, because any tampering
with kernel will change its signature, and
windows will refuse using it.
Using third party boot screen changer is much easier.
I use that one from Tune up utilities.
If you make boot screeen with TU utils, you can rename that new kernel to
original name and erase line
from boot.ini which points to that TUkernel.

Remember, allways keep original kernel on PC (rename it to ntoskrnl.ori),
so if anything goes wrong,
you can get it back (rename it back) from Recovery Console.

Complicated enough?

I learned it hard way.
