Back-up with XP access

I am trying to back up "My Documents" to my D drive (DVD-
RW) using the "advanced mode" tab in the back-up wizard.
When I click "Start Back-up" I get the following pop up
box Backup Utility: The backup file name could not be
used. D:\***.bkf". Please ensure it is a valid path, and
that you have sufficient access. (the *** stand for the
file name I used. I have tried many different file names
and none work.)

I have been backing up my documents by the old copy and
paste routine.

XP will not allow direct burning to a CD-R or DVD-R
You have to backup to your hard drive and then copy to the DVD

Thank you, Blair. I wish XP woud indicate this somewhere.

I will try your suggestion.

XP inbuilt CD burning does not support using one as output medium from a
program. And does not handle DVD at all. You can use third party
Packet Writing software: but note that in any case NT Backup will not
see a DVD as being removable medium that can be 'spanned', so you will
be limited to what will fit on a single disk. I would look to other
backup software that can handles DVD directly for itself, such as
BackUpMyPC

Packet writing packages are:
Direct CD - aka Drag to Disk, part of the Easy CD Creator suite from
www.roxio.com

InCD with the Nero suite from www.nero.com

or if you do not want a complete suite I would go for
DLA from http://www.sonic.com/products/dla/features.asp ($29.99)
