Windows XP Backup Problem

G

Guest

I am using Windows XP backup utility for the first time to back up some of my
files to a RW-CD.

Each tme I attempt the backup, I get the following message:

The backup file name could not be used

"D:\Backup Disk 1.bkf"

Please ensure that it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access

What am I doing wrong? I have spent two hours figuring this out, all to no
avail. Help?

Thanks - Mike

Try the file transfer wizard, set computer as old in the wizard, run the data to
a new folder that you create, also, select the files, folders that you want it
to transfer. When its thru, transfer folder to a cd.

The XP backup app won't write to CD-RW /R directly, just backup to
a folder on the HDD then write it to CD-R preferably [CD-RW isn't the
best for archives]

That's not entirely true. IF you have third-party packet-writing
installed, then you CAN write directly from NTBackup to a CDR(W). The
problem is you can't span the data across more than one disc.

Of course you are correct about packet writing, but would you
seriously use it for backups ?.

Me? Hell no. I wouldn't use it for anything. I see to many CDRW
failures using packet-writing to even consider it.

But lots of folks do. They haven't yet seen the light.
