Windows XP Backup (home edition)

I have installed the backup utility. I have installed a CD in the drive and
when I try to run the backup I get an error
"the backup name is invalid" "please assure it is a valid path and you have
sufficient access"

It doesn't seem to matter what name i use or if i use the .bkf extension.

help please?

The standard MS backup utility can not write to CDs unless you have set up
the CD with Roxio's Drag to CD or Ahead's InCD.

Save your file to the hard drive and then put it on a CD.
Better yet, use a better backup program.

And even then it can't span CDs.

You might want to look at a disk imaging program. This makes an exact
image of the partition which can be saved on CD/DVD or to another drive
- internal or external. [It's best when saving to a drive to save to an
external usb 2.0 or firewire drive.] Restores can be done of the entire
partition or individual files / folders. These work well and make it
easy to recover from a drive crash. Examples of this are:

Norton Ghost 9.0
Acronis True Image
BootItNg

You have to have packet writing software [Drag to Disk, InCD, etc] to use XP
backup. and you will need to manage the backup size to fit a single CD or
DVD as XP backup will not span across multiple disks.
