Hello,
I would like to back up my data since I want to install Windows SP2, but I
keep on getting an error when I select to back up my data to drive D (it's
the DVD/CD-RW Drive...)
The error message says:
"The backup file name could not be used.
"D:\Backup.bkf"
Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access."
I'd greatly appreciate any help,
thanks!

That's because you cannot use ntbackup to backup directly to cd.
Backup to a location on your hd, then copy that file to your cd using
appropriate burning software

Ntbackup, the backup program that comes with XP, cannot backup to a CD. It
is for backup to a hard drive or networked drive. You can backup to a hard
drive and copy the files to CD afterwards, then to restore, copy the files
from the CD back to a hard drive and do the restore.

There are other, better backup programs available which can use CD or DVD.

I have been using 'World Wide Data Services Inc'
(http://www.worldwidedataservices.net) for the past 3 years. I don't
want to sound like I am advertising for them, but whenever I do a
migration they make it so simple its just a click of a button. I pay
about $44 per month for unlimited data storage. If you are having
problems I suggest going this route.

For the above stated price I could buy twelve 160GB HDD's in a year.

Although I agree with the implication of your message, where can you
get a 160GB hard drive for $44?
