advance tab is greyed out

I am connected to a network printer but need to change my drivers to an older
version for one of my applications to print properly. I am in the
administrator group(if need be I can sign on as the administrator). When I go
to the advance tab on the printer property itis grey. How can I enable the
tab so I can change the drivers?

As Alan stated, you would need to be an admin on the server hosting the
share to change the drivers... because that printer "object" is defined as
using a certain driver.

If you want, you can create your own printer object on your workstation,
where you do have admin rights. Just add a *local printer* but instead of
saying its on LPT1 as you normally would, create a new TCP/IP port, pointing
at the IP address of the printer (you'll need to do some research there...
you can get the IP from looking at the ports area on the printer object on
the network share; or by actually going to the printer itself and playing
with the menus/printing a config info page.) You can then specify any
driver you like.

This should work unless the IT admins have really gone out of their way to
ensure that the printer only responds to jobs from their own print share
server.

Alternatively, ask the IT people to create a new printer share on the server
that uses the driver you need, but points at that same IP.

Version mismatch of what? I don't think so. I think it is more likely that
you do not have Manage Printers permissions to the printer. This can be true
even if you are a member of the Administrators group. Go to the Security
page and look what permissions you have.
