Network ID tab greyed out. Why??

I'm trying to join a worksation into a domain but the Network ID tab is
greyed out in My Computer> Properties> Computer Name. I tried changing the
Local Security Policies to allow the change, but it was still greyed out,
even after the change.

I'm am logged on as administrator as well. Network drivers seem to be
installed correctly. What is the problem?? Please advise. thanks.

Assuming you're running Media Center, this is by design. The ability to join a domain is limited to the initial installation. After that its disabled.

In the Network Connection properties, make sure you have Client for
Microsoft Networks installed.

Then make sure the Workstation service is enabled and running
(Start-->Run--> SERVICES.MSC) It should be set to auto. Stopping this
service will make the Network ID box be greyed out.

You'll probably also want to make sure you have File and Print Sharing
installed, and the Server service running as well.
