I'm *hoping* you will get your copy tomorrow. It went in the mail Thursday.

If you're game to upload the file to alt.binaries.freeware have at it. :)

Susan
As soon as the postman gets here with it (probably Monday) I will upload
it to alt.binaries.freeware unless someone has already started.

That sounds quite risque to me - I must have a dirty mind. ;)

Wonderful! I sure hope it arrives. I'm getting tired of having to
confess the inadequacies of my internet connection. Once the copies
start reaching their destinations we can move on to the errors I made in
the CD. ;)

Well, it will be a *change*. ;)

I already know about one error (a link on the "about" page that doesn't
work). I'm sure the list will be longer soon. . .

I've got an account I can use, and the bandwidth is no problem at all. The
problem I do however has is, I was expecting the iso to be around 4-500 MB
(which I have space for), would need to purchase extra space for a 700MB
file, which at present, I cannot afford.

If the ISO was compressed as a .zip file then it would be sure to be
less than 500 MB IMO.

Why would anyone want the ISO download uncompressed ? The point
of offering downloads as .zip files is to speed up downloads. If
anyone downloads a .zip of the ISO then it only takes a few seconds
to extract back to the ISO form doesn't it ?

Regards, John.

The one limitation would be about RAM. I'm not sure how much you need to
compress or decompress a 500mb zip. Might be able to get an idea by testing,
at least for an estimate, by looking at the drop in one's available RAM
during the process...

Most folks upload RARs.
I think it is mainly because of being able to fill missing
parts, although ISTM, one could split zips before upping. Then
one could fill zip parts.

I still think ISOs are somewhat compressed already. After all it
is an image file, yes?

I've D/Led ISOs on dial-up before.

and I think it sucks :)
downloading a couple of Knoppix and the speed averages 15mb/hr
with dsl at 512, I can download 220Mb in 59 mins 59 secs
not everyone has fast access and afford to download 700Mb

Yes, and... ?

I didn't say it couldn't be done. My point was that this
project, as I see it, is a *burning* project for people who
would like to get a CD.
Now, if people want to start uploading ISOs everywhere then
, by all means, they should, I could care less.
Besides, it already looks as if Steven Burn will be able to
host the ISO download. So, just wait until that's ready.

Oh, that's the feeling I was getting, my inferences no doubt.

Which I fully support. That is why I think it is important to
get it upped to usenet. It would speed up distribution. Also,
those who wish to attempt a dial-up d/l can. IOW it would add to
that # substantially, IMO.

I should think this is in line with accomplishing your goals.

No argument from me. :|

Providing you have a download manager and resume is supported, it's OK.
5 nights, while you sleep for a full CD.
Currently downloading System Rescue CD, 105MB, no resume, going to take
about 7 hours. Will be done before breakfast. ;)

I distributed a huge family photo archive (hundreds of .jpg images of
scanned reversed negatives and photos) as a set of four CDs with one
single 500+ mb SE zip file on each. I also put an autorun.inf file on
each CD that started the extraction. Everybody was able to install
from the CD with no problems and some of them have older computers
with little ram.

Been so long since I did it last. (a year or 2 anyway)
I used "Dunce" at that time as I recall, to keep re-stablishing
the dial-up connection.
