updating problems

when i attempt to update the definitions, i get a message
which says "Warning, could not connect to the Internet!"
and at the bottom of the screen it says "Updates have
failed. AutoUpdater could not detect an Internet
Connection."

i've turned off the MS firewall, uninstalled the
software, redownloaded it, reinstalled it, and still get
the same message.

any suggestions?

I run ZoneAlarm firewall. My identical problem was
resolved by deleting ALL entries (under ZA Program
Control) associated with MS AntiSpyware. No problem on
subsequent manual update attempt. Hope this is of help.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that in addition to my normal
DUN internet connection I was also 'online' (as reported
by 'Outlook Express' i.e. no check mark against 'work
offline')at the time of success. Subsequently I realised
that this seemed to be the only requirement for me.

Suggestion - ensure 'work offline' (under 'file' option)
is unchecked when closing OE or IE and try updating again
AFTER rebooting and making your connection to the
internet.
