Updates have failed. Could not detect internet connection.

While connected to the internet, with Antispyware
running, I have gone to its File menu and chosen "check
for updates." When I do that the "Microsoft Antispyware
Autoupdater" window appears with its drawing of a
satellite dish, then after a few moments this message in
red appears: "warning, could not connect to the
internet." A message at the bottom of the window
reads "Updates have failed. Autoupdater could not detect
an internet connection." What can I do to get the program
to download updates? Thanks.

Hello Lawrence

Open Internet Explorer, click File and ensure that Work
Offline is not checked.
For no Internet connection, if using XPSP2: at the
command prompt, type: netsh winsock reset <enter> and
reboot. See this MS article for additional info and
other OS versions.

To enable Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2
1. Click Start; Click Run; type Firewall.cpl and then
click OK.
2. On the General Tab click ON (Recommended) and then
click OK.
