Updater not working

when I run the file/check for updates utility I get the
usual contacting update server and checking for new
software updates. Then it warns - could not connect to
the internet (in red), and at the bottom it says updates
have failed. Autoupdater could not detect an internet
connection.

an ideas? failing that is there any way I could manually,
and I mean manually, update the relevant files?

I had this problem because of an antivirus program port
blocking feature, "Prevent downloads from the world wide
web - port 80 outbound". When I disabled this option
Antispyware was able to update automatically again. My
guess would be that antivirus software or firewall is
preventing the download, you may be able to exempt
Antispyware from being blocked, but I didn't have much
luck with this. If anyone knows the exe respobsible for
updating to add to a list of exclusions for port blocking
that would be helpful.

If you search the program help on the keyword "firewall", the last topic
found is "Using the SpyNet AntiSpyware Community with a Firewall.

This has details of executables involved.
