Autoupdater Not Working

When I click on "check for updates", the updater works fine
and will download a new definitions file if found.

However, the autoupdater, which is set to check for updates
daily (at 7am), does not even attempt to get internet access.

The autoupdater and all other necessary processes have been
granted internet access in my Zonealarm firewall (Windows
FW is disabled). But just to check, I disabled the FW and
the autoupdate still would not take not place. And there
are no error messages either.

I've reinstalled and updated MSAS with no luck.

Bill,
Yes, there is an administrator logged on at 7:00 AM.

Are there any particular Windows services that must be
running? Does the Automatic Updates (not the service)
option need to be turned on?

No services involved. Microsoft Antispyware in its beta1 form runs as a
user program--thus the need for the logged in user.

I don't have a good answer at this point. You might want to try a couple of
experiments: 1) do an update install--add or remove programs, Microsoft
Antispyware, change, update.

2) change the update time or be present at the machine at the scheduled
update time, and see if anything is observable.

As I recall, you've said that manual updates (file, check for update) work,
and presumably running Microsoft Antispyware Update also works? This would
seem to rule out some firewall interaction, so I think that some issue with
the scheduler is the most likely cause here.
