Yeah it is hard to make money from Linux, as everyone expects you to
write software for free! lol

Bravo! And it's not your age; that's just the way it is. I got
fooled into trying the Linux "thing" myself and when it turned out I
couldn't use all my hardware because of the lack of drivers, I had to
abandon it. There is nothing precisely WRONG with Linux; it's just
that, as with most anything, it's meant for a certain segment of the
population. It has a niche, and does well there. But for the pure
"users" out there, which are by far the majority, something like XP
is much better, as you described.
I've found that most people who make statements such as the cretins
above have done, are:
1. Actually using windows but want to be noticed;
2. Are power users who can write software and want to brag;
3. Are nothing but parrots;
4. And finally are usually Neanderthals and troglodytes on top of it
all.
Yer NEVER too old, long's you can THINK like a 17 year old; only
difference is, they haven't done the stuff yet that you've done where
you've done it and aren't amazed by it anymore < G >!! OH; maybe
that's just ME!! I aint's good's I once was but I'm's good once as I
ever was!

Well said Pop`. <grin>

As for Dale... well... maybe you are not old enough to understand yet. I
don't know, as it seems pretty easy to understand to me.

NotMe

I don't mind Linux on my fileserver & proxy server, but don't look for me to
start using it on my personal desktop until it catches up with the
useability of XP.
But if Vista is as backwards as IE7, I may have to rethink that.

Ubuntu is a free community and the end user are not blamed when they have

Linux software is just like any other... some is good, some is bad. For
instance, after many years of using the Microsoft Office Suite, which
has become more and more bloated, with more and more unneccessary
"features", I've been surprised at how good the free alternatives are.

Can it work with my KWorld USB TV Tuner? No!
Can it give me free PC to linelane phone calls this 31st? No!
Can it run my MS Office software? No!
Will it run my Palm Desktop? No!
Will it run my FinePixViewer? No!

So you see my (and maybe others) problem.

1) Run Windows all of the time, or
2) Run both

Sorry... when one does everything I need, why would I want another one
that runs less than what I do now? This doesn't make any sense
whatsoever!

Since more than 90% run Windows. Here is where all third party support
is going to flock too. Until third party flocks to something else, those
90% plus isn't going to change and neither are the majority of the third
party support.

I have no idea what linelane is or the significance of the 31st. But
whatever it is, I bet that it will work sometime after the 31st.

Open your eyes on the world and you will see that Windows the worst OS,
when a simple update of IE is able to disturb millions and millions people !!!

The only people who are disturbed are Linux Loonies that infest MS

browser .... let's wait February with Vista release .... I'm waiting for
big moments .... if you are still able to reach newsgroups of course !

Really? I am a former DEC, Unix, GEOS, OS/2, CP/M, CBM-DOS, and a Mac
user. How many more OS would I have to use Michel? There is a good
reason why Windows is number one. Because many of them used to use
something else. And we know what it is like on the other side of the
fence. And trust me, we aren't missing out on anything. lol

Really? Save in MPEG and have time shifting (TiVo like) ability? That is
hard to believe since the drivers are all proprietary.

Nope Yahoo VoIP (voice) has free calling for the 31st and the 1st. The
only Yahoo phone they offer is the VTech USB7200. It only works with
Windows and nothing else. Worse it has to be Windows 2000/XP only.
Will it run office productivity software? Yes!

OS/2 came with productivity software. You can spend years using MS
Office and still not know it all. Switching over to a less popular
Office suite doesn't make things better. I know I tried that before.
Can you use your Palm device with Ubuntu? Yes!

You can use it, but you can't use the Palm Desktop.
Will it allow you to view the pictures from your digital camera? Yes!

Anything will allow you to view pictures from your digital camera.
Nothing new there. But you can't run FinePixViewer which came with the
camera. Thus you can't use the special features.

http://www.mythtv.org

Of course, it won't deliver the commercial for-pay services that TiVo
does. But it does the programmed recording, time-shifting,
commercial-skipping, etc. that one expects from a PVR.

If you absolutely insist on running software written only for Windows on
hardware designed only for Windows, then that pretty much limits your OS
"choice" to Windows, doesn't it?

Utiliser l'OS avec lequel vous vous sentez le plus sécurisé ;-)

I'm perfectly secure running Windows.

200-300 threads on this newsgroup are not only congratulations to MS
concerning IE7 ;)
