Explorer Problem: Group & Sort By Elements gone!

Hi Guys & Girls,

I have a problem with my explorer... my "Sort By" and "Group By" elements
are gone! My explorer looks now like this:

My Group By context menu looks like this:
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/4745/groupbyproblem2ec6.jpg
After fresh installation of Vista (Ultimate by the way) my explorer looked
like this:
http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/3769/groupbyproblem3of5.jpg

I hope that you see the difference. When I click on Group By --> More and
enable Type, I can group by type. But the problem is that this setting won't
be saved! I'll have to do that everytime, or really frequently.

Anyone knows this problem? Or even better: does anyone have a solution?

Greetings,
Muty.

Push. Sorry for pushing, but I would enjoy a solution without reinstalling
Windows.

Whatever you think the word "push" does, it doesn't do it here.

Moreover, you quoted nothing of your previous message, and like many
newsgroup participants, I don't save previously-read messages. So I
have no idea what your problem is.

What Ken is trying to tell you, is that you cannot "push" for a solution.
Questions to this newsgroup are not answered by paid or full-time Microsoft
support staff. The people answering questions in this forum are just fellow
Vista users, trying to help each other. We are all volunteers. We answer
questions because we are nice :) If you need a formal answer from
Microsoft with guaranteed response times, etc, you can open a Service
Request with Microsoft Product Support Services.

Your problem looks like a usability issue. Nothing is broken. In the
Explorer window, right-click on the column heading bar, below the green
toolbar - for example, right-click in the pale blue field marked "Name". You
will see a context menu with options:
Name
Typ
Gesamtgroesse
Frier Speicherplatz
Dateisystem
Kommentare
Networkpfad
Prozent belegt

At present, you will only have one option selected: Name. If you select Typ,
you will see a second column appear, usw.

When you only have one column, eg "Name", then this will be the only option
in the "Gruppieren nach" menu. This is normal behaviour. You need to add
Typ, etc columns. Then these will be added as "Group by" options.

Loest dieses dein Problem?

(Entschueldigung - Ich spreche nur kaum Deutsch!).

Tschuess,

First of all Thank you very much for your support.
But your idea don't solves my problem. When I add type or any other element,
they will be just added temporary. After some time they are restored or
removed and just "Name" is available again. So I would have to add the
elements over and over again and that is annoying while working.

Greetings or "Grueße" from Germany,
Muty.

Sorry, I didn't realize that I am writing in USENET :O. Thought that Windows

inappropriate behavior!

Thats what I wrote initally:

These Explorer settings are stored in the User Profile (the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive of the Registry, plus associated bits and pieces).

If the settings are lost after you log in again, or after you reboot, I
would guess there is a problem with your User Profile. But exactly what the
problem might be, I can't say (not from here, anyway :).

Look in the event log, to see if you have any error or warning events
related to User Profile problems.

Hope it helps a bit,

Sometimes Explorer gets to a point where its "stuck on stupid", and the
various templates for folders, and even pretend Control Panel "folders",
start becoming somewhat odd and inappropriate, with odd and inappropriate
columns or buttons in the Toolbar; that is "stuck" with the wrong template
used. For example, C:\Windows might show as a folder using a Pictures and
Videos template, and there's no way to change this, except by adding and
removing columns; however the Toolbar still shows inappropriate tasks. If
you change the columns in C:\Windows, then a folder you DO want to use
Pictures and Videos template, like C:\Users\(You)\Pictures, starts mirroring
the wrong columns your chose for C:\Windows.This is just one example.

Basically, there are Six Types of choosable Folder Templates, if the
Properties of the folder allows it:

All Items
Documents
Pictures and Videos
Music Details
Music Icons
Contacts

Using Folder Options -> View -> Apply to Folders, depending on the Template
the folder is using, will apply that folder's view to all other folders
using that template.

However, your initial Computer view of your drives and network shortcuts
uses a template that's not choosable by normal means.

To reset the template type for the Computer "folder", you'll have to do
this:

In the Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

Then right-click on the key (folder) BagMRU, in the LEFT-hand pane, and
choose
delete. Then go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags

Right-click on the key (folder) Bags, in the LEFT-hand pane, and choose
delete.

Log off and log back on to Windows to re-create the keys (done
automatically), and start anew. This will reset all your folders to the
default templates.
