I've joined the likes of Adywebb by going VAG recenty.

The pug has gone, here's the new motor :)

Audi A4 1.9 TDI "Red Eye/ Red I" 110

116,000 miles (Barely run in :D)

A bargain so far at £1,500 - lots of service history inc. a new cam belt at the end of last year :)

Lots of features inc.

Climate control with A/C
Disc brakes all round with ABS

Makes a lovely chnage to a rattly old 306 :)

I fitted the pressed metal number plates on Sunday. They look really nice I think.

Nice car Chris - the 1.9TDi engine is a tried and trusted motor

Thanks Ady :)

The most noticable thing about it is how much torque there is low down in the rev range - you don't need "wind it up" so to speak as you did with the pug.

It's a much nicer driving environment also - everything lights up red at night.

Don't like not having a rear wiper though...

Looks good Chris :thumb: Number plates look good, think I'll get me some of those.

For the moment I have a nine year old Peugot 406 estate, petrol, 76K miles. Practical, sensible, good for work and twice as many mpg as the Merc. But boring as hell, absolutely no bling factor at all.

It was up £1300.00 I got it for £1100.00 but already I'm thinking about something better, newer and more fun.

I know what you mean about low torque at low revs, I've noticed that with the 406. I needed something quick for work and this one will do for now.

Here's a pic of my old and new together. The Merc went to a breaker's yard in Deptford. I got fifty quid for it :(

Not a bad car the 406 - watch out for french electrics!

What engine is it - a 2.0 four pot?

What you thinking about going for next? Something German again?

Love the duck tape on the nearside mirror on the merc! ;-)

Flops: The plates are great :)

They ARE fully road legal unlike many of the pressed plates that people buy in the German style font.

The BSAU145d regs say you must prove ownership of the car to purchase the plates (as they aren't show plates) so it's easier to find a local distributor of the plates than to send your V5 off. I bought mine from "Carnoisseur" in Cambridge, who ordered them in from Dubmeister (http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/)

They cost £34.95.

They make the car look much better than it did with the worn out plastic plates...

Something different too :)

Chris:

Yes, it's a 2 litre 16 valve.

Thanks for the info on the plates, I wasn't aware such things existed before seeing yours. They look good.

I don't think I'm going to get another Merc, you can pick them up cheap but the repair costs are phenomenal. Not sure what I'd fancy really, but it has to be an Estate, perhaps a Volvo, dunno.

The gaffa tape on the Merc's mirror was because somebody vandalised the mirror (bent it fully forward, snapping the mounting pivots) and I couldn't find one in stock at a breakers anywhere, including all the Merc specialist breakers I know.

The 406 is just the right size for all my disco stuff, here it is at Clink Street, near London Bridge where I played the music Friday evening in the hospitality bar of the Clink Museum.

Volvo's are a sound choice - if you want something quick get a V70 T5 or 2.4T - they have 240 and 200bhp respectively.

The D5's aren't so bad either - the D5S is pretty rapid and being a diesel does plenty miles to the gallon.

Or you could go VAG - A4 Avant or something like that :)

I'd go for the Volvo though :) Have always liked them :)
