Probably fear of contagion. . .

Your popularity is growing by leaps and bounds. . .

You were flamed by someone for *supporting* them.

Sem's *gunning* for you in another thread. . . ;)

(must have lost his flame thrower).

I wonder what comes next. . .

That was an interesting one, wasn't it? I sometimes think akula is a
bit hypersensitive about the fact that most of usenet is out to get
him. :)

He's just a bluddy nazi

I could start cross posting everything to

Just finished at 2:06 my time (it is now 2:25 my time). burning onto a CD
took a mere 3 min. 25 seconds. How the heck do I open it?

A lot of people will not be reading this thread. I will start another
for my reply.

Thanks. :) I see you already have a request in for a CD. There's a
*little* organization now as we start this year's distribution - a
single thread for requests rather than a lot of separate requests.

At some point volunteer burners will indicate which of the requests
*they* plan to fulfill. That may happen before they have their CDs or
they may wait until they're ready to start burning. (Later on only
people who have a CD respond to requests.)

When you have your copy of the CD you may respond to posted requests you
wish to fulfill - anyone who has a CD can offer to burn copies for others.

If you want to be an "official" :) volunteer burner I'll put your name
and email address (munged) on the web page so people in the newsgroup
and visitors to the PW site can email their requests directly to you.
Let me know if you want to do it that way.

Huhhhh???? Care to *splain* that to me ;-)

I don't think it's capable of explanation. I wrote a bit of it and
*I* don't understand it. Just dismiss it as a Saturday evening thing.

This thread is to discuss the verification of the PL2005 CD and the
PL2005 ISO of the CD.

I have added the information below to the 2005 Pricelessware CD web
page. I believe the information is correct (it has been checked and
cross-checked) but I would appreciate some feedback/confirmation.

If you have a copy of the PL2005 CD please check the number of files and
the size of the files against the information below and post the results
in this thread.

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/2005PL-CD-about.php

Some files were changed after the checksum file was created. As a
result the dvdsig.md5 file that is included on the CD gives incorrect
results. Verify your copy of the CD by comparing the files and file
sizes with this summary:

(root) 142278 bytes, 11 files
2005 folder: 743,624 bytes, 20 files, 0 folders
acf folder: 11,636 bytes, 2 files, 0 folders
files folder: 599,660,357 bytes, 327 files, 195 folders
TOTAL = 360 files, 198 folders

A list of all the files on the CD and the size of each (in bytes)
is here.

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/2005PL-CD-All-Files.txt

TIA

Not sure how that dvdsig.exe program is supposed to work. I ran it
according to the instructions in readme.txt and all indications were
that the files were good. For the most part, I think that's true, even
though the md5sums don't match for all files. I had 18 files where the
md5sums were wrong. Also there were 26 files that are on the PL2005CD
that are not in dvdsig.md5, hence no way to verify the files haven't
been tampered with (even though I think they're fine).

dvdsig.exe worked flawlessly last year. This year an outdated dvdsig.md5
file was included on the CD/ISO - the files that don't check are files
that were changed after the dvdsig.md5 file was created.

I received my copy of the PL2005 CD from Mark Warner. Mark downloaded
the ISO created by Steven Burn from Steven's web site.

Please tell me if your CD matches this information from my copy of the CD:

(root) 142278 bytes, 11 files
2005 folder: 743,624 bytes, 20 files, 0 folders
acf folder: 11,636 bytes, 2 files, 0 folders
files folder: 599,660,357 bytes, 327 files, 195 folders
TOTAL = 360 files, 198 folders

Checking the number of files and the size of each directory should be
adequate as a verification. I do not believe someone could introduce a
virus without changing those numbers.

My CD agrees with this info. Total size (right click on the CD drive
and look at the properties) of the my PL2005CD is 601,784,320 (573MB).
Someplace, not sure where, I thought the size was supposed to be
601,796,608. Haven't gotten into checking individual file sizes. Was
able to verify that the vast majority of my files agreed with the
md5sums in the dvdsig.md5 file.

My concern is with the 26 files that are on the PL2005CD, but are
nowhere to be found in the dvdsig.md5 file.
