Political (and religious) beliefs seem a trifle beside the point. . .

the gender card doesn't play well either.

Engineers are a mixed lot. . . heck, some of us are women. ;)

Some files were changed after the checksum file was created. As a
result the dvdsig.md5 file that is included on the CD gives incorrect
results. Verify your copy of the CD by comparing the files and file
sizes with this summary:

(root) 142278 bytes, 11 files
2005 folder: 743,624 bytes, 20 files, 0 folders
acf folder: 11,636 bytes, 2 files, 0 folders
files folder: 599,660,357 bytes, 327 files, 195 folders
TOTAL = 360 files, 198 folders

A proposed alternate method for verifying the PL2005 CD. This method
uses md5 checksums.

download and install:

Program: FingerPrint
Author: 2BrightSparks
Ware: Freeware
http://www.2brightsparks.com/

FingerPrint v2.1.3 [1.46 MB]
http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/software/FingerPrint_Setup.zip
(1461 KB)

--------

download this file: PL2005_CD-checksum.md5

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/PL2005_CD-checksum.md5

(save the page as a text document)

--------

Insert the PL2005 CD in your CD drive.

--------

Start Fingerprint, choose Hash Directory from the Action Menu, select
the drive that contains your PL2005 CD.

When the program has finished running right click in the MD5 Hash Values
window and choose "select all".

Right click again and choose "compare selected files to a file of MD5
values".

Navigate to the "PL2005_CD-checksum.md5" file.

If the checksums match the program will display a "Confirm" window with
this message: "No differences found."

---------

Please test this verification procedure and post your results.

Note: I have Win98FE, the CD was in my D: drive

Please note your OS and the drive used to test the above procedure.

TIA

Downloaded and installed FingerPrint. Followed your directions and got
"No differences found". Using Win98SE with the PL2005CD in H:\

Because this was the first time I'd used FingerPrint, it wanted me to
set up a profile. The CONFIRM box said "You do not have any profiles.
Would you like to create one now?" The correct answer is "No". After
that I got to the screen that allowed me to choose Hash Directory from
the Action Menu and select the drive that contained my PL2005CD . . .

Also unzipped and used md5summer. Same results, the PL2005CD verified
as good against the PL2005_CD-checksum.md5 file.

Oops, I forgot to include that instruction - added. I've added the
"alternate method" information to the ACF wiki page (as noted above).

Thanks for the help Jim. :)

Is the abf download still available?

That would depend on the retention of individual servers. It has been
up for 14 days so will be dropping off a lot of servers by now.

Thanks Jo. I'll remove the binary download info (your post) from the
pricelesswarehome.org CD web page. I just added the same info to the
wiki's web page where you can revise it and/or remove it (when you think
it's outlived it's usefulness).
