[PL] PL2005 CD - it's time to get serious

hmmm...this gets more interesting by the minute. I am using TUGZIP.
Perhaps this is a field bug---any thoughts on how to test??

I am willing to do some in-depth work on this.

SYSYPHUS' SISTER

If you have enough room download another zipped file from Maxim's site,
save it somewhere and make copies to experiment with.

Ask hg what program he used to unzip the file and try that app.

What is your OS? Anything special about your set-up? The problem could
be anywhere - *except* in the source file - we have at least gotten that
far. . .

Thanks Omar,

601,796,608 bytes is the magic number. All reports indicate that is the
correct size for the ISO file. Bad news for Harsh but at least he
*knows* now that his download is bad.

Thanks for the offer of screen shots - I think I'll pass. . . ;)

this afternoon. Used powerarchiver to >unzip it. The CD and the iso both have
the empty folders.

SYSYPHUS' SISTER

I have just tried TUGZIP 3.2 on PL2005iso.zip. The unzipped iso does show both the
empty folders (Debian & Q).

Susan,
That's exactly the size of the iso I downloaded from Steven Burn's
site. For what it's worth, I like the idea of having an iso to download
each year...

Good thinking hg. :) I think we need one more bit of information.
TUGZIP *might* give different results on different OS. What OS are you
using?

Feedback from the group please:

"SYSYPHUS' SISTER" has posted that folders are missing in two downloads
she has made - the first via a bit torrent - the second a download today
from Maxim's site.

I would like to know if anyone else is missing these empty folders in
their copy of the CD or ISO:

folder "Q" and folder "Debian" (a subfolder of folder "D").

Please tell me the *source* of your file or ISO and report on both good
copies and copies with errors.

TIA :)

Susan

Susan,
The CD I burned from the iso from Steven Burn's site has both the Q
folder and Debian subfolder.

Hi Jim,

From my POV our biggest problem this year has been lack of volunteer
help - especially from people with high-speed connections - the people
who want to *download* an ISO.

Another problem has been people who volunteer to help and fail to follow
through - without even making a courtesy post to say they will not be
able to do what they offered to do.

Steven Burn stepped forward at the last minute because *nobody* else
volunteered to create the CD/ISO. The initial volunteer "went on
sabatical". This is not the ideal way to proceed.

IMO there's not much point in having a discussion about how *we* should
do things next year until we know there is a *we*. The bottom line for
next year is simple: more volunteer help from the group to do the tasks
that need to be done or no PL2006 CD/ISO.

Susan,
That sounds reasonable to me...

Thank you hg. :)

"SYSYPHUS' SISTER" is the only person who has reported this problem.
AFAICT it's a "sytem problem" - not a PL2005 CD/ISO problem.

One less thing to worry about. :)

Hello Jim,

Apologies for the long response to your innocent comment. That rant was
*not* aimed at you. (It does represent my view of what *really* went
wrong this year.)

the gender card doesn't play well either.

That's a nice rumor - please keep spreading it. Engineers like to do
things the easy way. (We don't put shelves up if someone else will do it
for us.)
